Care Home Employers: New government white paper published

Published on April 1st, 2022

If you work in the care sector, you are undoubtedly aware that a new government white paper was published recently, entitled ‘People at the Heart of Care: adult social care reform’. As you’d expect from a document of its ilk, it’s very in-depth, but we’ve read and digested it so you don’t have to! The paper addresses many of the challenges that have beset Health and Social Care (HSC) in past years – and is underpinned by the promise of £500 million in support, to be allocated over the next 3 years. A sizable chunk of money will be allocated to learning and development of HSC employees, which has piqued our interest, as it means that we will be able to help our care sector partners with the ongoing issue of recruiting and retaining staff. Welcome news to a sector that is coming under increasing pressure – with many issues stemming from the staggering 28.5% average staff turnover – a result of low wages and low morale. With our assistance, HSC employers can offer fully funded, clear and trackable career pathway from induction (Care Certificate) through to Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications that make staff feel valued and happier in their jobs.

Funding for new starters

There is further good news outlined in the policy document: with plans to make the Care Certificate portable, which will be welcomed by organisations that have previously struggled to meet the costs of constantly onboarding new starters. Whilst the details of how this will be implemented are still not clear, the direction of travel appears to be set. Which is why we have already started to include access to our Care Certificate programme as part and parcel of our funded pathways. As a member of the EdgeWorks™ Funding Alliance, your employees can complete their Induction training as part of a fully-funded qualifications package. With our comprehensive range of courses and qualifications, we take your staff from induction through to becoming qualified specialists in fields such as dementia care, learning disability and  End of Life care.
