Course Focus: Online Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia 600/3095/1

According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are currently more than 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, accounting for one in every 14 people over 65. And with the number of people with dementia expected to rise to over 1 million by 2025 – and over 2 million by 2051 – it’s critical that we have workers with the right skills in place to provide these people with the care they’ll need.

The online Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia 600/3095/1 provides learners with a good understanding of dementia: its causes, symptoms and the effects of the condition on the individual as well as their families.

This qualification is suitable for anyone who would like to learn more about dementia, including those who have not covered dementia care in previous qualifications, including:

Learners studying the online Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia will cover the following mandatory modules:

  • Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care (A/601/2886).
  • The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia (H601/2879).
  • Dementia awareness (J601/2874).
  • Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia (T/601/9416).

Upon completion of the qualification, learners will have a range of tangible skills which  will enable them to:

  • Recognise different types of dementia, their causes and symptoms
  • Understand the impact of dementia on individuals and families
  • Determine the care and support needs of people with dementia
  • Communicate and interact with people with dementia
  • Work with people with dementia in a care setting
