A report published by Caring Choices this month has put the emphasis firmly back on training for care workers.
The report, The Future of Care Funding: TIME FOR A CHANGE, is the result of a consultation of 700 older people, carers and those with direct experience of the system and shows high levels of dissatisfaction with means testing, the ‘postcode lottery’ over how social care is delivered and the quality of provision.
Chief Executive of Skills for Care, the government’s social care workforce development agency, Andrea Rowe says: “The Caring Choices report does show a level of disaffection with how social care is delivered and the quality of provision, but we’ve been working hard to make that there are enough trained and experienced staff to cope with any improvements to the system. A better trained workforce is clearly key to making sure that people who use services get high quality care delivered to consistent standards and we are already seeing how the common induction standards are making sure that new staff can deliver quality care in a rapidly changing sector.”
‘Caring Choices: Who will pay for long-term care?’ is a collaboration of 15 organisations including the Kings Fund, Help the Aged and Age Concern representing all aspects of the long-term care system.
